COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — For the second time in less than two weeks, millions in the metro area are bracing for another assault of snow and sub-freezing temperatures.
“If we had just snow, I could deal with it. But just to be cold and ice, I don’t like it,” said Melissa Steward who was out shopping on Monday.
The Georgia Department of Transportation said it has cranked up its massive brining operation again.
“We are preparing for what could be a worst-case scenario,” GDOT spokeswoman Natalie Dale said.
The department will be mixing up the saltwater solution and pre-treating thousands of miles of interstate highways and state routes to reduce the risk of slick-freezing road surfaces.
“We are treating about 6,000 plus lane miles of interstate and that is like treating a two-lane road from New York, to LA,” Dale told Channel 2’s Tom Regan.

People are doing their own weather preps at stores like Kroger and Home Depot.
“We’re trying to get some snowmelt, but nobody’s got any snowmelt,” shopper Jeremy Miller said.
Miller told Regan that the bitter cold weather has already had a major effect on his job.
“We pour concrete, and we can’t get concrete today. The concrete plants are frozen,” Miller said.
With snow and ice on the way, Shane Howell said the winter weather could affect his business as well which uses high-pressure water to remove soil and other obstructions.
“My management, they will monitor the situation they’ll tell us whether it’s safer to stay home,” Howell said.
GDOT said county road crews are ready to roll if snow starts to accumulate on Tuesday.
