ATLANTA — One of the most anticipated movies this year is now out, and it was filmed right here in Georgia. “Coming 2 America” premiered this week.
Channel 2′s Heather Catlin caught up with stars Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall about the film.
It’s been 33 years since the two played Prince Akeem and Semmi in the original hit “Coming to America.”
While the actors are excited for everyone to see the movie, they told Catlin that one of the most exciting parts was filming at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
“So special. It’s a real sense of pride every day riding on the lot. Brother owns his lot, and the lot is amazing. It’s the nicest studio I’ve ever been on,” Murphy said.
“What Tyler has done, he just keeps giving. That was so special. That was the greatest experience,” Hall said.
Murphy’s Prince Akeem first went to Queens in 1988 to find love. After the script was worked on for four years, the sequel is here and Prince Akeem is now the king.
He returns to the same borough to find his long-lost son. Catlin asked Murphy what it was like to return to the characters 30 years later.
“It was a little surreal when you’re on the set and you look over, and I haven’t seen Shari Headley in 30 years,” he said.

Along with many actors reprising their roles, there’s also a new generation of actors, including Eddie Murphy’s own daughter.
Bella Murphy plays one of his daughters on-screen, but she had to do a little begging to get the role because her dad didn’t think she was old enough.
“Just for our family, we’re not allowed to work until we’re 18. But he made a little bit of an exception because I was 17 at the time,” Bella Murphy said.
Another reason the cast of had such a great time filming at Tyler Perry Studios was because of other movies also filming there. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence were filming “Bad Boys 3″ at the same time.
“Coming 2 America” is out March 5 on Amazon.
