Metro Atlanta city gets water infrastructure investment, upgrades from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

EAST POINT, Ga. — Among a series of water-focused infrastructure laws impacting the metro Atlanta area, East Point will see investment and upgrades as part of the reauthorized Water Resources Development Act from U.S. Congress.

U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff worked to get the East Point Water Infrastructure Enhancement Act added into the law in a bid to upgrade the water infrastructure for the city’s families and businesses, according to his office.

The law expands the current authorization for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to work on water infrastructure projects in the city, which the senator’s office said would improve quality of life and strengthen resilience for the community.

“As the City of East Point continues to grow, there’s a need to strengthen water infrastructure for families and businesses. That’s why bringing Republicans and Democrats together, I passed into law my legislation to strengthen the U.S. Army Corps’ partnership with East Point to upgrade infrastructure and quality of life,” Ossoff said in a statement.

With the new authorization, Ossoff’s office said Congress can now give more funding to the Army Corps to work with the city on water infrastructure projects, which East Point Mayor Deana Holiday Ingraham said would help the city’s aging infrastructure needs.

Holiday Ingraham said Ossoff’s “foresight to introduce, champion and shepherd the passage of this critical legislation puts East Point in the position to now pursue up to $20 million from the Army Corps of Engineers to assist with strengthening and enhancing our water infrastructure facilities and system” and called it “monumental” for the city.
