RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. — An employee at an east Georgia care home is being charged with battery and exploiting an elderly person after a man died following an incident at the home.
Last week, deputies were called to Barclay House Senior Living in Augusta where the director told them about an incident that happened earlier in the month between a nursing assistant and an 82-year-old resident at the home, according to the incident report.

The incident report says she told investigators that they believed a patient had fallen just before 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 5, leading to him being taken to Piedmont Hospital.
On Jan. 17, the elderly patient died at the hospital.
After his death, staff went back through surveillance video showing the man’s fall and found that Curtis Hightower, 28, and the man had been involved in an “assault incident” in which Hightower struck the man with a hand or fist, causing him to fall.
