JACKSON, Ga. — It’s Groundhog Day, the day that Georgia’s famous groundhog makes his prediction on whether we’ll have an early spring or not.

General Beauregard Lee made his annual prediction today shortly after 7:30 a.m. from his mansion at Dauset Trails Nature Center in Jackson, Georgia.

And yes, he saw his shadow, which his handlers say indicates that we’ll have six more weeks of winter.

This is his 44th year of predicting the weather.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), General Lee is way more accurate than that other groundhog you may have heard about.

General Lee boasts an accuracy rate of 80%, while Punxsutawney Phil is only accurate 35% of the time.

The general’s previous home was a Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary in Gwinnett County, but after it closed in 2017, he relocated to Jackson.

Dauset Trails Nature Center opened at 6 a.m. and Beau’s prediction happened during a sunrise ceremony that began at 7:30 a.m.
