GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A local father is thankful to have survived a road rage shooting in Gwinnett County that has police looking for a suspect last seen jumping out of a moving car.
“The only thing I could think about was my daughter,” said Ja’lil Ali, who has a 4-year-old little girl.
On March 27, Ali says he was at a train crossing on Buford Highway and Amwiler Rd when the car in front of him backed into him.
“The arm for the train is coming down,” he said, “and the driver got impatient and he just backed up without looking and rammed into me.”

Ali says he followed the Chevrolet Malibu to try and get the driver’s information as the driver left the scene.
“I was hoping to pull to the side and get it behind us and stuff like that,” he said.
Because the driver didn’t stop, Ali kept following to get the tag number. It wasn’t long until he says the driver pulled out a gun and fired five shots at him.
“I’m ducking, trying to stay on the road and not crash into anybody else,” he said.

He says one bullet hit his car and ended up under the hood and he eventually stopped for his safety as the shooter kept driving.
Police are hoping someone recognizes the shooter who police say jumped out of a moving car to run away near Jones Mill Road at Bay Circle. Officers recovered the car after it was found abandoned but haven’t been able to locate anyone associated with the car.
On Wednesday, Ali’s car broke down on the way to work. He wants someone held accountable for destroying the car his whole family relies on.
“To be scared like that and not be sure how to provide for your family that’s not a good feeling at all,” he said.
He started an online fundraiser in hopes of being able to repair or replace his car.
