SNELLVILLE, Ga. — Authorities are investigating a car theft in Snellville after a suspect stole a vehicle with children inside, prompting a police search involving K-9 units.
The incident happened Saturday night near a CVS on Main Street, where a mother, who works at the store, had briefly stepped away from her vehicle and left it running. According to police, someone jumped in and drove off with her 7 and 8-year-old still inside at around 11 p.m.
The car was later found abandoned in a nearby neighborhood off Rockdale Circle after approximately five minutes.

Witnesses described a heavy police presence as officers searched backyards and moved house to house with K-9 teams.
“It looked real serious,” said DeAndre Anderson, who saw the search unfold. “It was four of them trailing, going house to house, going through the backyards, looking to see, you know, find whoever they were looking for with the K-9 unit.”
Police say the suspect was last seen wearing a green hoodie, red gloves and a red mask.
Anderson, a father, says the case is a reminder of why he always brings his son inside with him.
“It don’t matter if I gotta go in the store real quick or if I go into QT for a split second,” he said. “You never know what you’re going to run into.”
