HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — A Henry County police officer was awarded a Medal of Valor from his department for his role in a shootout with a suspect that injured a police officer.
On August 27, 2024, the US Marshal’s Service was executing a search warrant in Henry County.
During the execution of the warrant, both Henry County police and Atlanta police were assisting when police say the suspect started shooting.

An officer was hit in his arm by the gunfire.
K9 officer Justin Pena applied a tourniquet to the wounded officer’s arm, which controlled the bleeding.
Pena then moved the wounded officer to safety.
Henry County police said Officer Pena’s actions and ability to demonstrate exceptional composure and quick thinking earned him the medal.
The medal was presented to him during a ceremony on December 18, 2024.
