ATLANTA — The possibility of storms turned into reality Saturday afternoon as some severe thunderstorm warnings were issued in north Georgia and metro Atlanta, affecting the Atlanta airport and a popular music festival.
The Shaky Knees Festival was evacuated earlier Saturday night amid severe weather warnings.
In an update at around 9 p.m., organizers said they will reopen at 9:20 p.m.

9:30 p.m.: Atlanta Beltline canceled the Lantern Parade due to severe weather. “A rescheduled rain date will be announced soon via social media and our website,” Atlanta Beltline said via social media. “In the meantime, please stay safe and dry. We look forward to celebrating with you on the Southwest Trail soon!”
9 p.m.: Shaky Knees Festival will reopen at 9:20 p.m., the festival said via social media. The only act that will perform after the reopening is Twenty One Pilots. The festival will close at 11 p.m.
8:30 p.m.: The ground stop at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been extended by the Federal Aviation Administration until 9 p.m.
7:43 p.m.: Severe Weather 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz reports that a severe thunderstorm produced hail in Rome earlier today.

7:42 p.m.: The Federal Aviation Administration has extended the ground stop at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport until 8:30 p.m.
7:30 p.m.: Severe thunderstorm warnings issued for Clayton, DeKalb, and Fulton counties until 7:45 p.m.; Coweta and Meriwether counties until 8:15 p.m.
7:20 p.m.: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Clayton, Fayette and Fulton Counties until 7:45 p.m.
7:05 p.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for DeKalb and Fulton counties until 7:30 p.m.

6:52 p.m.: The Shaky Knees Festival at Piedmont Park in Atlanta is in a weather delay until further notice due to weather in the area, according to information from the festival.
“Severe weather is in the area. For your safety we are evacuating the park. Please calmly head to the nearest exit. Follow staff instructions and monitor festival communications including social media and app notifications for updates,” the festival said on social media.
6:15 p.m.: The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a ground stop for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport until 7:30 p.m. for departing planes due to thunderstorms.
4:55 p.m.: Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Fannin County until 5:30 p.m. The warning was canceled at 5:07 p.m.
4:45 p.m.: The NWS also issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Gordon County until 5:15 p.m. The warning was allowed to expire.
4:36 p.m.: The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Polk and Floyd counties until 5:15 p.m. The warning was allowed to expire.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Eboni Deon says temperatures will climb to the mid 90s.
Scattered afternoon and evening storms will develop, and a few could become strong to severe, with possible damaging wind gusts.
The heat isn’t going anywhere Sunday. Temperatures will stay in the 90s with another chance for isolated afternoon storms.

Deon says the active weather continues next week, bringing at least a chance for storms each day through Wednesday.
High temperatures will reach the lower 90s Monday before gradually cooling into the lower to mid-80s by Wednesday.
