On Dec. 28, Habersham County deputies caught Cameron Joseph Myers, 23, of Mt. Airy, after a brief manhunt in a nearby wooded area near the Walmart in Cornelia.
At that time, the 23-year-old was wanted for a probation violation. After running from deputies, he was then charged with obstruction of an officer.
The sheriff’s office said when Myers arrived at the detention center on Saturday, no contraband was found on him.
Just before 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 29, detention center staff was alerted that another inmate was experiencing a possible drug overdose.

Detention officers immediately rendered aid, including administering Narcan multiple times. The inmate, whose age and identity are not being released, was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and later released back into custody.
After an investigation, authorities issued additional warrants for Myers including crossing guard lines with a controlled substance, distribution of a controlled substance, and possession of drugs by an inmate.
Investigators say Myers admitted to smoking fentanyl and bringing contraband into the detention center.
“We take matters like this seriously and work to make sure the inmates in our custody are safe during their time in our charge, no matter the length of stay,” Sheriff Robin Krockum said. “My administration and I are committed to maintaining transparency with the public about incidents such as this, which is only one of many daily challenges we face as a result of the illegal drug epidemic facing our community, our region, and our nation.”
