Deputies searching for man suspected in hit-and-run, stabbing off-duty GA police officer

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run crash, then stabbing the driver of the truck he hit.

Deputies say that at approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday, a Dodge Charger hit a Chevy Silverado on Interstate 20 Eastbound near Panola Road in DeKalb County, then left the scene.

The driver of the truck, an off-duty police officer from the metro Atlanta area, then followed the Dodge into Rockdale County near Salem Road to get the license plate information.

After the Dodge pulled into a parking lot, the two drivers argued.

Deputies say that argument escalated into the Justin Perry Hurst hitting the victim and then stabbing the victim multiple times.

The off-duty officer was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Deputies have not yet said how badly the officer was injured.

Hurst drove away from the stabbing scene and authorities are trying to locate him.

He has ties to the Alpharetta area and is considered armed and dangerous.

Aside from the Dodge Charger, his last known vehicle is a white 2019 Volkswagen Passat with Georgia tag # CWC3082.
