Parents say the air conditioning at Callaway Elementary is not working properly.

One mom says she’s had to pick her son up early twice this week because he was overheated.

Clayton County confirms it’s having HVAC issues at the school in several classrooms. It says it had brought in portable A/C units to try and relieve some of that heat.

Parent Jocelyn Stargell-Zachery says those portables aren’t doing the job to cool down those classrooms in the summer heat. She’s had to take her child out of school because of it.

“I’ve had to come to the school to check him out two times this week due to that,” she said. “You’ve been in the classroom and in the hallway. It’s very warm. I picked up my son after school every day, and it’s very warm.

“You can literally feel the heat coming from the hallways and it’s very uncomfortable for the students and i know its uncomfortable for faculty and staff.”

Clayton County Schools acknowledged the issue.

“The district continues to monitor conditions daily, including temperatures and heat index levels, and will continue to take appropriate measures as needed to support safe and comfortable leaning and working environments,” they said.
