ATLANTA — Georgia U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff spoke one-on-one with Channel 2 Action News on Wednesday about putting continued pressure on the United States Postal Service for more improved and timely postal deliveries.
“Georgians deserve high quality postal service. They haven’t been getting it. I’m going to continue to apply maximum pressure. That pressure has had some results. We need to see more,” he said.

Within the past year, Channel 2 Action News has reported extensively on issues with USPS.
Ossoff told Channel 2′s Tyisha Fernandes that on time delivery was “well below 50% across north Georgia” at one point.
He said there has been some improvement in the data, but now he is getting reports from Georgia veterans about not getting their prescriptions. Veterans said they have also received appointment notices after the scheduled appointments.
“So I have opened this inquiry with the VA to ask the postmaster general what steps he is taking urgently, right now to make sure veterans aren’t being denied health benefits and prescriptions that they need because of failures of USPS,” Ossoff told Fernandes.
The senator has been critical of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and introduced the Postmaster General Reform Act back in September. Ossoff wants to make the postmaster general job a presidential appointment and U.S. Senate confirmed position with a five-year term and two-term limit.
“So that nominees to lead the post office have to come before the elected representatives of the people and explain their vision and qualifications,” Ossoff explained. “And if they want to stay in that job, come back again and defend their record. So I’m looking to get that legislation passed.”
