SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — A family says they have a home but they are essentially homeless.
They say their home was destroyed by vandals and their insurance company refuses to pay for all the repairs after a year and a half.
“I’ve been asking over and over for State Farm to help,” homeowner Onerine Browning told Channel 2′s Tom Jones via Zoom.

She says it feels like she is homeless, even though she has a home.
“Why am I living up here in New York with other people?” she asked.
She says she can’t live in her home on Jeffrey Drive in the City of South Fulton after vandals destroyed it.
And she says State Farm refuses to pay to get it back like it was before the break-in back in July 2023.
“This is worse than living under the bridge,” her son Malik Haney said.
He is living in the home and showed Jones the massive damage.
We saw unfinished ceilings, floors, and walls.
There are no appliances or cabinets, and no toilets or sinks.
It had mold after the home was flooded. There is no heating or air conditioning system.
“I’m bundled up like this. It gets cooler in here than it is outside,” Haney said.
The family says State Farm has paid for some of the damage, but not enough to make them whole.
“No matter what we do nothing is getting done,” Haney explained.
Jones has stayed in contact with a State Farm spokesperson.
He sent a statement that said: “We have reviewed this claim again. And can share we continue to actively work on this claim and communicate updates through the public adjuster.”
Public Adjusters work to ensure policyholders receive full and fair compensation.
Browning says that process isn’t working for her.
“Why my house is not back together? Why?” she said.
She said dealing with the stress of not living in a home she is paying for is affecting her health. And she noted she is still paying for insurance.
Her son says this is affecting his health as well. And he says he lost custody of his children because the home is unlivable.
They are seeking out an attorney to help them resolve the issue.
