SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — The holiday season provides opportunities to be a blessing to something or someone.
In this instance, a Spalding County Sheriff’s deputy did just that and possibly more by saving the life of a puppy he saw lying in a ditch.
On Nov. 30, just before midnight, Deputy Rhodes in his off-duty capacity was headed home when he noticed the dog lying in a ditch off Vineyard Road.
After seeing the puppy needed medical attention, the deputy contacted Officer Creamer with Spalding County Animal Control and took him to Woodland Animal Hospital.

The dog named Willow was treated and received pain management for a broken femur at the hospital. The broken femur was likely due to Willow being hit by a car, hospital officials confirmed.
Because of this, Willow’s injuries required money that would prevent the amputation of her right back leg.
Street Paws, an animal rescue stepped in and took ownership of Willow and Officer Creamer from Animal Control agreed to foster Willow while Street Paws and Dr. Christianson from the hospital worked to find an orthopedic facility to repair her leg.
Calls were made and an orthopedic specialist met with Willow for a pre-operation consultation.

Willow had surgery on Thursday and her femur was repaired by attaching a metal plate with screws to the femur bone. Willow is now recovering and is expected to be ready for adoption soon.
