The snow was off and on around 2 p.m., then there was a steady flow. It was light and fluffy and after a couple of hours snow started to accumulate.

Channel 2′s Tom Jones talked to 8-year-old JaKylee Kendall as she and her mother went grocery shopping.

“Like snow,” she told Jones.

She got excited seeing the snow come down.

“It’s fun and you can make snow angels,” Kendall said.

The 8-year-old says it’s not only fun, it’s educational.

“Snow is a solid and a liquid,” she said.

Jones asked her how she knew that information.

“Because inside of school you learn about solids and liquids,” Kendall explained.

The solid, liquid white stuff was light and fluffy when it came down, and it dusted the area but caused no major problems on the roads.

Paige Godfrey noticed how light and fluffy the snow was.

“Yeah it’s gonna be fluffy they said this time. Instead of the icy mess that we had,” she said, referring to last week’s snow.

But she wasn’t taking any chances. Before the snow came, she hit the grocery store to stock up.

“The eggs are almost gone and everything,” Godfrey said.

The county also stocked up on loads of sand and salt in advance of the snow.

“We are absolutely prepared,” Spalding Public Works Director T.J. Imberger said.

Crews pretreated roads that emergency responders use so they would be able to get to people in need.

But, the county is watching the forecast and the snow.

“The minute that we see any type of precipitation we have trucks and things ready to move,” Spalding Citizen Engagement Specialist Dr. Cherryl Burks said.

“This is like Tennessee weather. This is not for Georgia,” Thomaston resident Timmy Copeland said as the snow continued to fall.

He couldn’t believe the Griffin area was getting snow.

“It’s nice and fluffy. Not icy. Not yet at least,” Copeland said.

Spalding County says it is prepared to ramp up staff if the snow starts to overwhelm roads.
