“Bad Boys: Ride or Die” - $404,544,199

By far Georgia’s highest-grossing movie of the year, Martin Lawrence and Will Smith teamed up once again for the fourth installment in the “Bad Boys” franchise, which started back in 1995.

This time, the Miami cops are working to clear the name of their late police captain after he’s linked to drug cartels.

It was filmed at Eagle Rock Studios in Atlanta, as well as in Stone Mountain and Miami.

“Red One” - $182,861,176

This Christmas movie starring Chris Evans and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson hasn’t had long to make it’s way to the top of this list since it released just last month.

When Santa Claus, played by J.K. Simmons, is kidnapped, the North Pole’s Head of Security, Johnson, and a hacker, Evans, go on a global mission to get him back and save Christmas.

“Red One” filmed in Atlanta, including around Centennial Olympic Park Drive, and in Hawaii.

“Civil War” - $126,185,957

“Civil War” tells the story of journalists in a dystopian future America that is in the middle of another civil war.

Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura and Cailee Spaeny play a group of photojournalists making their way to the White House to interview the president, played by Nick Offerman, before he is overthrown.

This movie filmed across metro Atlanta, including its opening scene in front of Big Bethel AME Church.

“Fly Me to the Moon” - $42,247,783

This is Georgia’s highest-grossing film that didn’t call metro Atlanta home. “Fly Me to the Moon” was filmed in the Savannah and Tybee Island area of coastal Georgia.

A historical romcom set just before the Apollo 11 mission, a marketing executive played by Scarlett Johannsson is tasked with staging a fake moon landing just in case the actual mission fails.

She joins the team of a NASA launch director, played by Channing Tatum, and the pair’s working relationship soon becomes more than colleagues.

“The Forge” - $40,392,664

For more than 20 years, Albany’s The Kendrick Brothers have been making faith-based films, all of which are filmed in local communities across Georgia, to overwhelming success. “The Forge” is their ninth film.

This film focuses on 19-year-old Isaiah who is given an ultimatum by his mom, Christian author Priscilla Shirer, to start making better life decisions or move out. “The Forge” focuses on the power of prayer and dealing with our past to make a better future.

“Megalopolis” - $13,859,851

What was supposed to be legendary director Francis Ford Coppola’s epic return to the big screen, “Megalopolis” was shrouded in controversy before it even released.

An extra filed a lawsuit against Coppola in Fulton County Superior Court claiming that she and other women were sexually harassed while on set. She claimed that Coppola “began touching, hugging, kissing and feeling some of the women in the cast who were acting in the scene,” which called for a topless performance in February 2023.

“Megalopolis” featured an ensemble cast of heavy hitters like Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Shia LeBeouf, Jon Voight, Aubrey Plaza, Laurence Fishburne and more. It tells the story of “New Rome,” and a battle between an artist vying for a Utopian future, played by Driver, and the city’s greedy mayor, played by Esposito.

It was filmed at Atlanta’s Trilith Studios, as well as in New York City.

“Saturday Night” - $9,801,510

“Saturday Night” tells the story of the wild 90 minutes right before the first-ever live broadcast of “Saturday Night Live” in 1975 that nearly derailed the now-iconic show before it even started.

Gabriel LaBelle stars as creator Lorne Michaels and Cory Michael Smith, Dylan O’Brien and Matt Wood star as iconic actors Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, respectively.

It was filmed across metro Atlanta, including at Trilith Studios.
