If it sounds complicated, that is because it is.

The biggest trade involved Forward De’Andre Hunter being moved to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Hunter was drafted by the Hawks with the 4th pick in the 2019 draft. The 6′8″ forward from the University of Virginia got a four-year, $90 million contract extension from Atlanta that began in 2023. In return for Hunter, who was averaging 19 points and 3.9 rebounds a game in 2024-25, the Hawks get Guard Caris LeVert, Forward Georges Niang, three of Cleveland’s second-round draft picks and the teams will swap two other picks.

The other big trade saw the Hawks send Guard Bogdan Bogdanović to the Los Angeles Clippers for Guard Terence Mann and Guard Bones Holland. Bogdanović had been a key bench player for Atlanta but was in year two of his four-year extension with the Hawks and is due over $17 million this season.

A third trade had the Hawks sending Cody Zeller, who had not played for the team this season, get traded to the Houston Rockets for a pair of draft picks.

The Hawks have struggled this season and have lost nine of their last 10 games. They have a 23-28 record and are in 3rd place in the NBA’s Southeast Division. Currently, they are ninth in the NBA East and that would get them a spot in the NBA Playoff play-in game.
The loss of Forward Jalen Johnson to a season-ending shoulder injury has hit the team hard and Hawks General Manager Landry Fields appears to be making wholesale changes and clearing out potential salary cap space for the team.
The new-look Hawks next play the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday, Feb. 7 at State Farm Arena. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
