Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns retiring today after 40 years at WSB-TV

Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns will retire today after serving the Georgia community for 40 years at WSB-TV.

Burns will retire after his final forecasts Tuesday on Channel 2 Action News at 4:00, 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

“It has been 40 years and now it’s time to hang up my spurs,” said Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns. “After a lot of soul searching, I’ve decided to retire. This business has really taken a toll on family life. My wife Susan, and my two children, Kimberly and Christopher, made many sacrifices so I could do what I loved. I am young enough now and in good health. Our General Manger, Ray Carter, and our News Director Suzanne Nadell have been amazing leaders to work for. I’m honored Ray has asked me to come back as Chief Emeritus, to join our new Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz for the major storm coverage through the year. I’ve loved working with the great and talented Severe Weather Team 2. You will all be in good hands with Brad, Brian Monahan, Eboni Deon, and Jennifer Lopez. For your loyalty to me and to this incredible TV station, I will be forever grateful. It’s been quite a ride. I will see you again from time to time but I just want you all to know, I’ve never take your trust for granted.”

Ray Carter, Vice President and General Manager of WSB-TV Channel 2 announced Burns’ retirement in October.

“Glenn has been the unmatched weather expert in North Georgia,” said Carter. “As a weather scientist he’s kept countless people informed when Mother Nature has threatened our communities. He’s always been the voice of calm during tornadoes, flooding, snow and ice storms and so many people have relied on his expertise to keep their families safe. We will miss Glenn on the air every day, but we are excited to celebrate his career which has spanned four decades at WSB-TV and also see him from time to time as Chief Meteorologist Emeritus in weather specials and major storm coverage.”
