Snow, freezing rain, sleet and rain: What to know about wintry mix threat for north GA

ATLANTA — Severe Weather Team 2 is tracking an increasing risk for a winter storm in north Georgia later this week.

Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz says confidence is growing that we will see a winter mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain Friday into early Saturday.

“This is evolving into a complicated, messy, and for some of us an icy scenario.”

The greatest potential for accumulating snow will be in the north Georgia mountains as usual. But some snow in parts of the metro is possible along with freezing rain.

Nitz says early estimates show about 1-3 inches of snow in parts of the North Georgia mountains.

Across parts of metro Atlanta, we could see snow mixed with freezing rain, but exactly where will be fine-tuned in the coming days.
