Tornado watch expires in metro Atlanta after severe storms move through

ATLANTA — A tornado watch has been allowed to expire in metro Atlanta after a line of severe storms moved through the area.

Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz and Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan tracked a tornado using StormTracker 2HD as the worst moved through Rockdale County.

Nitz says radar confirmed a tornado touched down in Conyers. The National Weather Service will have survey crews out to assess the damage.

Monahan says as of 4 a.m., the severe weather risk is now over for north Georgia.

Here’s what to know for Wednesday:

  • Flash flood warning has been issued until 7:15 a.m. for the following counties: Clayton, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Newton, Rockdale, and Walton counties.
  • Few light showers to develop later today
  • Windy and much cooler. Temperatures will be falling throughout the day.
