GBI Museum The most famous item in the collection is this "Man From Outer Space." But it's no man and it's not a monkey from Mars either. In 1953, when there was all kinds of talk about UFOs, three men took a dead monkey, removed its tail, covered it in hair remover, colored it and left it on a Cobb County road. GBI Museum The trio then told a policeman that they saw a saucer-shaped object earlier that night, several small creatures and that they hit one with their truck before the others jumped back in the saucer and took off. (Nelson Hicks)
GBI Museum It set off hysteria with the Air Force being called in. But soon after, Dr. Herman Jones, who is credited for introducing forensic lab work to Georgia, examined the creature and determined it was a hoax. The trio eventually admitted to the plot and were fined $40. (Nelson Hicks)
