ATLANTA — Former Atlanta mayor and Ambassador to the United Nations Andrew Young is currently being monitored in the hospital.
An ambulance was called to the former ambassador’s home today for a distress call.
Staff at Grady Memorial Hospital have conducted tests and have appeared to rule out a stroke.

Young, 92, was taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to his family. They say he is now “joking with staff and doing well.”
“Ambassador Andrew Young was recently transported to the hospital as a precaution. He is now joking with the staff and doing well. His family kindly requests privacy during this time and appreciates your thoughts and prayers,” the Young family wrote in a statement.
The former ambassador will be kept overnight for hospital staff to monitor him.

Young’s most recent public appearance was last week when he spoke at the National Funeral Service for former President Jimmy Carter.
During the service, he described former President Carter as a friend who was a blessing to the country.
