ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating a “tragic incident” involving an unhoused individual and a vehicle belonging to the Atlanta Department of Public Works.

A Department of Public Works spokesperson confirmed to Channel 2 Action News they are aware of a “tragic incident” involving a City of Atlanta Department of Public Works vehicle and an unhoused individual.
The Department of Public Works released the following statement:
Our department routinely clears encampments that pose health and public safety concerns, always following days of outreach to connect unsheltered individuals with housing and support services. DPW is fully cooperating with the Atlanta Police Department’s ongoing investigation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
No other details were released.
The age and identity of the victim were not shared and officials did not say if the employee would face charges.
