DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Some homeowners in a DeKalb County neighborhood say they no longer feel safe after a string of reported car burglaries in their community.

The homeowners, who asked us not to identify them because the suspects are still on the run, told Channel 2 Action News that the thieves are targeting people who live in Lithonia’s Waterton on the Park and Shadow Lake Drive neighborhoods.
Neighbors told Channel 2 Action News that over the last 90 days, surveillance cameras have captured thieves breaking into their cars on multiple occasions.
In fact, on Feb. 23, surveillance video captured a group of armed thieves.
As two of the suspects attempt to steal a car, a masked man can be seen pointing a gun at the home security camera. The video, which was posted to Nextdoor, had more than 300 comments as of Tuesday afternoon.

“My family’s been here for over 20 years‚ so to see the change in the community is just heartbreaking,” said a neighbor, who asked us not to reveal her identity. “I just feel like if you see something, you say something, but there’s nothing being done.”
Channel 2 Action News reached out to the DeKalb County Police Department, and a spokesperson sent us the following statement:
“The DeKalb County Police Department is aware of the reported entering autos in the Lithonia area. According to our records, we have no reports of entering autos in the Waterton on the Park community in the last 60 days. On Shadow Lake Drive as a whole, there are several reported crimes that are currently being investigated. We have increased patrol in areas where we are seeing any specific crime patterns. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for criminals to be armed during the commission of crimes. As always, citizens are encouraged to call 911 to report any crimes or suspected criminal activity.”
