DEKALB COUNTY — The DeKalb County Police Department are no longer searching for a vehicle with a child inside.
In a statement to Channel 2 Action News, the DCPD said the following:
“After further investigation, we can confirm that this was a false report regarding a carjacking incident involving a 4-year-old child inside the vehicle. There was no carjacking, and we have confirmed the child is safe with a family member elsewhere. The vehicle was reportedly stolen after being left running, unoccupied and unattended.”

Initially, police say around 10:18 p.m. Thursday evening, they responded to an armed carjacking in the 2900 block of Panola Road where they were under the impression a 4-year-old child was inside of a vehicle that was taken.
DCPD did not release any additional details regarding the false report.

It is unclear if the person who made the false report will face any charges.
