DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Right now, representatives at the Latin American Association are advising undocumented day laborers of their options in the wake of President Donald Trump’s deportation policy.
“Everybody comes here for job, looking for job,” a day laborer told Channel 2′s Audrey Washington.
The day laborer is from Guatemala.
He asked his name not to be used for the report because he said he fears ICE officials will find him, and either put him in a detention center or deport him.
“I don’t like immigration,” he said. “My wife not here. I am here by myself,” the day laborer added.

ICE targeted operations are ramping up in cities across the country and many undocumented day laborers said they are scared they are at risk.
“You don’t know what could happen and you want to be prepared at any moment for the worst-case scenario,” said the CEO of the Latin American Association Santiago Marquez.
“There are penalties to be paid for entering and remaining in this country illegally and anyone who takes that risk has to expect it sooner or later,” DA King of the Dustin Inman Society told Channel 2 Action News.
King said his organization which touts a focus on secure American borders and enforcing American laws, supports no protections for anyone in the country without proper documents.

“There’s no exclusion for day laborers,” DA King said.
But Santiago Marquez said there is help for those who are undocumented, especially for people with children who are American citizens.
“Really create and think about a plan for their family because if they do get deported and their kids are here, who is going to take custody of their kids,” Marquez explained.
The Latin American Association will hold two town halls in the coming weeks.
One in Gwinnett County and in Dalton.
