Suspect arrested, charged with arson after setting tires on fire outside of DeKalb County buildings

Covington Drive and Midway Road Fire officials say just before 10 p.m., they received a call about a possible tire shop at Covington Drive and Midway Road.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County Police have arrested and charged a suspect with arson in a business fire that occurred just before 10 p.m.

DeKalb County Fire Rescue responded to a business fire at Covington Drive and Midway Road. When crews arrived on scene, they found flames coming from a large pile of used tires, which caused the fire to extend to a nearby building, Capt. Jaeson Daniels, DKFR public information officer told Channel 2 Action News.

Daniels said the fire was located between two buildings, both of which sustained damage.

The fire is extinguished and no one was injured.

DCPD officials arrived on scene where they learned neighbors detained a man they say started the fire.

Police say after conducting an investigation in conjunction with DeKalb Fire Arson Investigators, they arrested the 38-year-old man on arson charges and booked him at the DeKalb County Jail.
