ATLANTA — Atlanta Fire and Rescue confirmed that a man died when he was hit by a MARTA train at the Civic Center Station.
MARTA Police said that around 10:43 a.m. Saturday, a train operator notified them that a man was on the train tracks.
In a Saturday night update, police said the man was seen jumping down into the trackway alone at around 10:35 a.m. Moments later, he is seen trying to climb back up onto the platform without success.
The operator was not able to stop the train before hitting him at 10:40 a.m.
Firefighters and MARTA had to de-energize the tracks to safely reach the man, who was pronounced dead on the scene.
MARTA Police Criminal Investigations Unit detectives says there is no indication of foul play, because the man entered the trackway area alone.
The rescue operation shut down the MARTA station for a couple of hours.

In order to keep passengers moving, MARTA established a bus bridge to move them from Civic Center to Peachtree Center and the North Avenue Stations.
